The article researches two close comedy genre models if the first third of the 19 century – a light (a high society, genteel) comedy and a vaudeville – a society comedy version. Its principally different staging is revealed which is connected with a high literature tradition in the first case and a folk-festive comic in the second case which in its turn specifies fundamentally different interpretation of the main characters
The article analyses the discussion of Griboyedov’s contemporaries of his comedy, defines the general basis of critics’ misunderstanding the play itself and its character based on the rhetoric discourse
