We have performed an analysis of the current state of
rice seed production in the Krasnodar region. It is
shown that over the last 10 years in Kuban a full
variety changing took place, which was caused by
State support of rice seed production on the federal
and the regional levels. Agricultural producers of the
Krasnodar region have completely stopped cultivation
of medium-ripening rice of Liman variety, increasing
acreage of new varieties such as Victoriya, Sonet,
Diamant, etc. which allowed to increase crop yield
from 47,1 centner/ha in 2006 to 63,0 centners/ha in
2015 and to improve the quality of commercial grain,
decreasing the content of red-grain forms average in
the Krasnodar region from 20,5% in 2006 to 1,8% in
2015. Legal basis of realization of state agrarian
policy in the field of seed production of agricultural
crops, including rice is reviewed, recent changes in
the legislation of the Krasnodar region concerning
seed production of agricultural crops are shown, as it
was reflected in the Law of the Krasnodar region â„–
3062-KZ dated 28.11.2014 "On the regulation of
certain relations in the field of seed production in the
Krasnodar region". Areas contributing to the
development of the rice seed production in the Kuban
region are identified for further conducting of variety
changing, introducing new high-yielding varieties into
production as well as varieties of special purpose for
import substitution
Analysis of rice market in the country was conducted,
as well as assortment of rice products was studied. It is
shown that rice is the most popular grain in Russian
Federation and in percentage of cereal products in
shops they occupy 29% and in diet of Russian people
– 41%. It is found that in Russia round grain japonica
varieties are the most popular kind. It is mentioned
that for the last years consumer market demands
diversity of rice products, including long-grain and
exclusive varieties, imported from abroad. It is shown
that in big cities demand for such products has
increased from 5% to 15%. Analysis of milled rice
balance was conducted. It is found that volume of
milled rice in the domestic market of the country is
annually about 680-800 thousand tons exceeding the
average demand value by 54,8 to 172,3 thousand tons.
Promising breeding directions are observed for
increasing assortment of rice products in Russian
markets with a view to import substitution. It is
mentione that Russian breeders have developed group
of exclusive varieties: Rubin, Mars, Viola, Violetta,
Avstral, Ivushka, Natasha, Aromir etc. It is shown that
special purpose varieties currently occupy 3,5% of rice
acreage in the Krasnodar region and their cost is by
20-70% higher than that of traditional rice varieties. It
was found that for their implementation into
production and promotion on the consumer market we
need to develop agricultural techniques of cultivation
and seed production scheme in accordance with the
biological characteristics, conduct marketing
activities, promotion of a healthy diet
The article reviews four variants of laying nurseries of
primary branches of seed production of long-grained
rice varieties of the Kuban breeding taking into
account their biological features, plots area ranges
from 0,7 m2
to 1,1 m2
, seeding rate for one family –
from 100 pcs./m 2 to 170 pcs./m2 . We have studied
traits of long-grained rice varieties of the Kuban
breeding - Ivushka, Avstral, Kurazh, affecting the
yield and quality of seeds: yield, multiplication factor
and fractional composition of seeds depending on
laying multiplication nursery of first year progeny.
The differences between varieties by the type of
tillering, vigor, germination of seeds depending on
planting system are shown. Optimal way for laying
seed nurseries is found: for long-grained varieties with
medium tillering (Kurazh type) – row length – 3,3 m
and seeding rate – 120 caryopses/m2
; for those with
intensive tillering (Ivushka type) – row length – 3,8 m
and seeding rate - 120 caryopses/m2
. This will allow
using mechanical method of sowing using selective
cassette seeding-machine in the primary seed
production, reducing cost of seed production and
increasing efficiency of labor, increasing volume of
seed production of long-grained rice varieties in short
terms and accelerating their implementation in the
Kuban region for import substitution
Hybridization was performed for nine hybrid
combinations between Russian early-ripening varieties
Novator and Serpantin and South Korean cold-tolerant
introduced samples Odaebueo и Tinbubueo. As a
result, 283 hybrid caryopses in eight combinations
were obtained, which were later studied in growing
conditions. Study of trait inheritance in F1 hybrids was
conducted, heterosis effect of studied hybrid
populations was determined by productivity and
individual elements of yield structure, using indicators
of the degree of phenotypic dominance (hp) of
quantitative traits. Significant variability in agronomic
traits of F1 hybrids was determined. The manifestation
of heterosis in productivity was noted in combination
Odaebueo / Tinbubueo, in which super dominance was
observed by all the studied traits forming productivity,
in the hybrid progeny. Using the "halves method",
analysis for cold resistance of 227 F2 plants in eight
hybrid populations was performed. Seven lines with
increased resistance to low positive temperatures
during germination were identified in five hybrid
combinations, which is 3% of the studied material. It
is shown that in breeding for cold resistance as mother
plants in hybridization it is necessary to use rice
varieties (samples) that are resistant to low positive
temperatures during germination, and as paternal -
more productive varieties, adapted to soil and climatic
conditions of rice growing area of the Krasnodar
Region
27 introduced variety samples of rice from 8 countries
were studied by the complex of biological,
morphological, agronomic traits to select the most
valuable genotypes for including them into breeding
programs on development of cold tolerant rice
varieties. It was found that the studied introduced
varietal samples were characterized by variation in
duration which varied from 120 to 182 days. Variety
samples from Bhutan ATTEY, PARO DUMBJA
(White) had shown response to photoperiod and the
panicles didn’t appear in conditions of Krasnodar
region. During the study there were selected high
productive forms Obongbueo and Tinbubueo from S.
Korea with grain weight 81.67 g / vessel and 74.43 g /
vessel, respectively. According to results of research
there were selected five cold tolerant samples Tong
Jing 29 (China), Giza 178 (Egypt), Istigbol and
Mustagillik (Uzbekistan), ZAKHA (Bhutan),
evaluation result of which were on the same level with
those of standard check variety Kuban 3, as well as
those of samples with increased resistance IR83222-
F8-14 and IR83222-F8-156 (Philippines), PARO
DUMBJA (White) and THIMPHU DUMBJA
(Bhutan). As a result of research there were selected
three introduced rice variety samples Tong Jing 29
(China), Tinbubueo (S. Korea) and SR 30084-F8-156
(Philippines) which by duration, morphotype and
agronomic traits are considered as candidates for
further hybridization and breeding as sources of useful
traits and properties
