The article reveals the problem of psychological research. The analysis of methods and methodologies which are used to discover and evaluate leadership in small groups is presented. The author’s approach to the study of this phenomenon is suggested. The experimental methodology and the methodology of observation of leadership, which are discussed in the article, allow receiving objective and reliable data about leadership

The article presents a historical survey and a theoretical analysis of research approaches to the conception of destructive leadership. Relying on the results of the analysis, the author arrives at a conclusion that in most studies the reasons and the peculiarities of destructive leadership are related to the individual and personal characteristics of the leader, while psychosocial factors causing the appearance and development of destructive leadership are not given enough consideration.
