THE POETICS OF QUESTIONS IN THE NOVEL “WOMAN FROM ANDROS” BY THORNTON WILDER

This article considers the knowledge of the truth in the novel of the American classic of the XX century Thornton Wilder. From our point of view, one of the ways of an implementation is the existential form of a rhetorical question. They were asked by all characters of the novel and for some of these questions the archetype of the searcher which was formed in the Medieval legends is guessed. THE PROBLEM OF HOMONYMY OF PROPER NOUNS AND COMMON NOUNS IN INDIVIDUAL SPEECH NOMINATIONS

The article deals with the problem of onimization of proper names and common nouns in individual-speech nominations such as the "Thomas" vacuum cleaner. To study the question of homonymy of proper names and common nouns and their recognition in speech we set the problem of preserving the identity of the proper name to itself in speech formations designed to transfer this proper name to the sphere of other subject correlations, the possibility of contextual and other identifiers to switch the original proper names and common names into a new sphere of naming for a period sufficient for the appearance of a new usage. The speech affiliation of these proper name component nominations is stressed. It is concluded that the inclusion of proper names in the speech denominations, despite their mass character, are of an occasional nature and very rarely serve as a basis for the formation of homonyms - new common words. Proper name as a part of an individual speech name is not a proper name in the true sense, but only an identifier, a formant of the value of singularity, existing only as far as its name is preserved. With the disappearance or transformation of this name, the proper name identifier returns to its original state

THE ROLE OF LANGUAGE GAME IN THE BUILDING UP OF A POLITICIAN'S IMAGE (PRAGMALINGUISTIC PERLOCUTIONARY EXPERIMENT)

The article discusses the results of the pragmalinguistic experiment. Since language game is a result of speech creative work, which manifests the individuality of a linguistic personality, the politician can intentionally use language game and thereby consciously form his attractive image. The politician, who uses different kinds of language game, makes some personal characteristics building up the portrait aspect of effective political image more distinguished and thus affects the election decision of the voter. It has been studied whether language game influences such characteristics as determination, insistence, persuasiveness, emotionality, confidence, energy, sense of responsibility, dedication, trustworthiness, honesty, a certain hardness, decisiveness, autonomy, adherence to principles and assertiveness. It has been concluded that language game influences 11 of the 15 characteristics, this fact confirms the hypothesis

THE SEMANTIC FEATURES OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CONCEPT OF “MUSLIM WORLD” IN THE INTERNET SPACE

The article deals with the specifics of verbal actualization of the concept “MUSLIM WORLD” in the modern English-speaking discourse. Based on the achievements of cognitive linguistics and cultural linguistics, it is possible to research the concept of “Muslim World” as a phenomenon of the English linguistic culture. The author notes the concept can be submitted directly via the meaning of “MUSLIM WORLD” or by its connotation. The means of a nominative, descriptive and expressive realization of the concept “MUSLIM WORLD” are described using the material of 100 pieces of contemporary Englishlanguage discourse, which actualize the concept “MUSLIM WORLD”. The author concludes the concept is treated as a multidimensional construct of thought, reflecting the knowledge of the surrounding reality, the process and the result of human activity, experience and knowledge about the world, containing the information about it. Cognitive-discursive analysis permits to set the content and the structure of the concept “MUSLIM WORLD” not only in the conditional but also in the discursive spaces in cooperation with nominative, descriptive and expressive realization. The author makes a conclusion the concept “MUSLIM WORLD” appears in the American print mass media from a negative sight - this is the result of a lack of public awareness about the cultural heritage of the Islamic world, its customs, and key problems

THE SPECIFICS OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE CONCEPT “WALL“ IN RUSSIAN AND GERMAN LINGUISTIC CULTURE

The article discusses the specific character of the representation of the concept “Wall” in the Russian and German linguistic fields. The peculiarities of the historical development, the different world views and world interpretation, the fundamental divergence of the life philosophy of the Russians and Germans are causes of the distinct fragments fixation of the linguistic view of the world which have been realized by the concept “Wall”. The global changes in social and political life of the society generally may have an effect on the lexico-phraseological language fund, works of literature and also social and political essays. The undertaken analysis of the mentioned phraseological units and certain texts has revealed the national specifics of the of the concept “Wall” realization in the national linguistic cultures. It made possible to draw a conclusion from polar connotation of the concept under consideration in Russian and German. In the opinion of the author the concept “Wall” has been fixed in the Russian mind as a symbol of the national unity and patriotism, confidence in the future, safe defense. In German mind the concept «Wall» arouses the negative associations which have been caused by the concrete events in the German history. In this context the analysis of the peculiarities of the concept “Wall” linguistic realization is of substantial interest. As a result of the undertaken research, the author concludes the main reasons of the semantic coincidences and also about their lacks in the Russian and German linguistic cultures

THE SUN AS THE ARCHETYPE OF “HEIGHT” IN JOHN DONN’S POETRY

This article conveys J. Donn’s poetry from the point of view of archetype “Height”, namely the Sun. The Sun as an object of the material world, always attracts people’s attention. At all times it has energy and power, tenderness and endearment. The Sun has been in the focus of interest both for primitive men and our contemporaries. The Sun is depicted in literature, works of art, folklore, architecture. In the poems by J. Donn the Sun is personificated, the author gives Him human beings’ features, the hero is equal to Him, he asks the Sun questions and even tries to reign over Him. The Sun rays can be compared with passion, high feelings, gladness; love is associated with sunrise, zenith and sunset. Partly this article compares barocco and modern literature. The archetype “Height” is connected with the Sun image in the Medieval literature. So, it may be concluded that the Sun, its image and archetype is the key point of J. Donn’s creative work
